In Wild Summer Flowers, we’ll step into the color and abundance of summer flowers and create an expressive abstract floral still life using acrylic gouache and traditional gouache on watercolor paper. This class is designed to help you loosen up, trust your creative instincts, and discover a process that balances structure with freedom.

We’ll begin by creating a background, then build our painting using a simple compositional approach that establishes focal points, movement, and rhythm. Along the way, you’ll gain confidence mixing color and values, developing paintings from simple shapes, creating depth through layering, and exploring expressive brushwork and mark-making techniques that bring energy and life to your work.

Gouache is a beautiful medium for this process because it dries quickly and layers beautifully. By the end of class, you’ll leave with more than a finished floral painting; you’ll walk away with new techniques, fresh inspiration, and a deeper sense of confidence in your own creative voice. Perfect for artists who want to create artwork filled with movement, color, and personality.

In this class, we find inspiration in graceful spring blooms like tulips, anemones, and other seasonal flowers as we explore the beauty of loose watercolor painting.

Together we’ll watch color bloom across the page as simple brushstrokes begin to transform into expressive petals and flowing stems. I’ll guide you through color mixing, gentle blending techniques, and a series of brushstroke exercises designed to help you create soft leaves, delicate petals, and natural movement.

This class is about letting the paint lead the way and allowing water, pigment, and gesture to create flowers that feel fresh, lively, and full of personality. By the end, you’ll have a collection of loose watercolor blooms you can return to again and again, flowers you can keep all year long.

What could be more fun than a party with sketchbooks and art supplies?

That’s precisely what we’re going to do! As we step into the holiday season, let’s carve out a little time for ourselves, our art, and our creative community. So come one, come all, and let’s have a party.

There will be a playful art game (or two!) and a few sneak peeks at upcoming events you won’t want to miss.

Gather a sketchbook (or three), your favorite pens, pencils, crayons, paints—any random supply that’s been waiting for a bit of love, and meet me in the studio.
